BENTLY NEVADA 3500/34 Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) Relay Module
For applications that meet the high reliability requirements of ISA S84.01-1996 for safety instrumented systems, the 3500 series mechanical protection system supports Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) relay modules. The TMR relay module uses three independent relays to provide one relay output. The TMR relay module is used in conjunction with a specialized TMR framework interface module and three monitor modules, providing a 3-to-2 voting output.
Each relay in the TMR relay module contains "alarm drive logic". The alarm driver logic adopts "AND" and "OR" logic programming, which can be applied to alarm inputs (warning and danger) from any monitor channel or several monitor channels in the framework. The alarm driver logic is programmed by the 3500 framework configuration software according to different application needs.
Functions of TMR relay module:
The 3500/34TMR relay module consists of two parts: TMR relay module (two) and TMR relay input/output (I/O) module. Through programming, two TMR relay modules simultaneously perform the same function, effectively providing redundant support.
The functions of each section are as follows:
TMR relay module: The TMR relay module provides 3 independent alarm contact signals for each of the 4 relay channels based on the user programmed alarm drive logic. The alarm drive logic for each relay channel is programmed by the 3500 framework configuration software. In the TMR framework, alarm signals (channel warning, channel danger, monitor warning, etc.) used for alarm driving logic are provided simultaneously by three monitors through three independent data channels. The TMR relay module detects each data channel separately, generates three alarm contact signals, and sends them to the TMR-1 module. If the OK status of a data channel is NOT OK - invalid.
Relay I/O module: The TMR relay I/O module contains 12 relays, divided into 4 channels and 3 relays. This method provides a 3-to-2 relay voting function for each relay channel. For each relay channel, the TMR relay module provides three alarm contact signals. Each alarm contact signal is input to a relay in the channel group. These relay channel groups can provide the 3-option voting listed in the table from an electrical design perspective. In addition, each TMR relay module provides an OK status detected by the relay I/O module.
If the module is in a NOT OK state, the alarm contact signal from that module will not be detected.
The TMR relay module contains six LEDs to indicate the operating status OK LED: lights up when the module is working properly
TX/RX LED: Indicates transmission and reception. Flashes when communication between modules within the framework is normal
Channel alarm (CH ALARM) LED: When the relay channel is in an alarm state, it lights up (DPDT). The relay is connected in a single pole single throw (SPST) form and does not support arc extinguishing function. Epoxy seal, contact life 100000 times @ 1.5 A, 24 Vdc or 1 A, 120 Vac relay, each channel is normally charged during use.
