IC687BEM731 Genius bus controller, compatible with the 90-70 series or PACSystems RX7i system. IC687BEM731 can connect up to 31 additional devices on a single Genius communication bus. This device occupies a slot on the PLC backplane.
Through the Genius bus, IC687BEM731 is compatible with various types of devices, including Genius I/O modules, various other programmable logic controllers, remote substations of 90-70 series systems, Versamax I/O stations, field control stations, and several other host devices that require communication between datagrams and global data.
The selected features of this device include I/O diagnostics, support for redundant systems, datagram and global data transmission, connection ports for portable monitors, and serial interface ports. When the number of devices connected to the Genius bus is the highest, the communication channel rate is measured to be 153.6 kbaud. The maximum supported bus length is 7500 feet; However, the communication rate will decrease as the bus length increases. IC687BEM731 supports the following bus types: daisy chain, shielded twisted pair (STP) cable, Twinax cable, and possibly fiber optic cable.
IC687BEM731 can be installed at any position on the Genius bus; However, if the device layout matches the programmed device number, performance will be improved. The device number of the bus controller is usually 31. To install this device, turn off the rack power, firmly secure the controller to the backplane, and then connect various bus connections.
To configure IC687BEM731, please use Machine Edition Logic Developer 5.0 software with a second service pack or higher version. Note: Each device on the Genius bus must be individually programmed through programming software or by writing configuration COMMREQ.
